Output has risen 380.0% since 2021-22, from 3 '000 tonnes to 1.44 lakh tonnes. Yield here runs 1.3 tonnes per hectare against a national 0.7 — 80% above average. What is wrong with this data (20)
  • Units differ from the horticulture store: AREA IS IN LAKH HECTARES, PRODUCTION IN LAKH TONNES, YIELD IN KG PER HECTARE. The measure keys name their unit so a mix-up cannot pass silently.
  • Columns named Cereals, Nutri/Coarse Cereals, Shree Anna /Nutri Cereals, Small Millets, Other Pulses, Total Food Grains and Total Pulses are AGGREGATES of other rows, not crops. They would double-count if summed.
  • A figure absent in the source is absent, not zero. The source writes '@' and '$' for not-available and those are read as null.
  • This release covers FOODGRAINS only — cereals and pulses. No oilseeds, cotton or sugarcane.
  • These are the NATIONAL figures and are the only correct denominator for a district's or state's share of India.
  • Cotton, jute and mesta are EXCLUDED from this file. The source reports them in lakh bales (cotton 170 kg/bale, jute and mesta 180 kg/bale) while every other figure here is lakh tonnes, and one file declares one unit. They need their own dataset.
  • '@' and '$' in the source mean 'included in Rabi' and 'included in Kharif' respectively — the season split is not separately published, though the crop total is.
  • MSP IS IN RUPEES PER QUINTAL (100 kg).
  • SUGARCANE IS NOT AN MSP. Its figure is the Fair and Remunerative Price, set under the Sugarcane (Control) Order and binding on mills, and is stored as `frp` so it can never be labelled a support price.
  • THE PERIOD IS THE MARKETING SEASON — KMS for a kharif crop, RMS for a rabi one. That is how the price is announced, procured against and searched for. The source labels kharif rows by marketing season already; its rabi rows are offset by one and carry a pivot artifact (six cells, five distinct prices, one repeated in an adjacent cell at a position that differs by crop), and are re-pinned here. Read naively, wheat's RMS 2026-27 would have been Rs 2,425 instead of the published Rs 2,585.
  • Common and Grade 'A' paddy, hybrid and Maldandi jowar, ball and milling copra, and long and medium staple cotton carry DIFFERENT prices and are stored as separate graded commodities, not as the parent crop.
  • THIS SOURCE CARRIES NO KHARIF FIGURES FOR 2026-27, though they were announced. Those come from the Cabinet announcement instead — see msp-kharif-2026-27-pib.json. A price absent here is absent, never zero and never carried forward from the previous year.
  • Copra is excluded: it carries the same duplicate artifact AND a missing year, and is announced per calendar year, so its remaining cells cannot be pinned to labels with confidence.

  • UNITS ARE LAKH, NOT '000, and differ from the horticulture store: area in lakh hectares, production in lakh tonnes, yield in kg per hectare. The measure keys name their unit so a mix-up cannot pass silently.
  • FIBRE PRODUCTION IS IN BALES, and a bale is not one weight: cotton 170 kg, jute/mesta/sannhemp 180 kg. They share the source's single 'Production' column; the measure key carries the weight so the two can never be summed together or read as tonnes.
  • 2025-26 is the 3rd Advance Estimate, not Final. It is recorded per period and must never be quoted as a settled figure.
  • Rows named Cereals, Jute & Mesta, Nutri/Coarse Cereals, Other Pulses, Shree Anna /Nutri Cereals, Small Millets, Total Food Grains, Total Oil Seeds, Total Pulses are AGGREGATES of other rows, not crops. They would double-count if summed.
