What the numbers say
- India imports roughly 57% of its edible oil, making it one of the world's largest vegetable-oil buyers.
- Volume was flat at 16.3 million tonnes in 2024-25, but the mix shifted sharply: palm oil fell to 7.58 MT from 9.02 MT, while soybean oil hit a record 5.47 MT.
- The import bill still rose about 22% to roughly ₹1.61 lakh crore as global prices climbed.
