What the numbers say
- India is the world's second-largest fish producer (~8% of global output) and leads in shrimp production and export.
- Output climbed to about 19.8 million tonnes in 2024-25 — more than double the 9.6 MT of 2013-14 — driven mainly by inland aquaculture.
- Fisheries is one of the fastest-growing parts of the farm economy, expanding roughly 9% a year.
